The Adega Cooperativa de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo is located at the foot of the Serra da Marofa, between the Côa and Águeda rivers, close to the Douro river. It was founded in 1956, by 154 members, organizing itself as a cooperative, and currently has about 350 members.
The winery is part of the Beira Interior Demarcated Region, in the sub-region of Castelo Rodrigo, characterized by a continental climate with Mediterranean influence and soils dominated by schist and sandstone.
This region has a long winemaking tradition, dating back to the 12th century, when the Cistercian monks of the Convent of Santa Maria de Aguiar introduced the first viticulture knowledge to the area.
